The Doctor travels through space and time in a stolen TARDIS, a time machine and spacecraft that appears as a British police box. Along the way, the Doctor meets a variety of companions, who join him on his travels and help him to fight injustice and save civilizations.
The Doctor has been played by a number of actors over the years, including William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker. The current Doctor is Ncuti Gatwa.
Doctor Who is one of the longest-running and most popular television series in the world. It has been translated into more than 50 languages and has been broadcast in more than 200 countries. The series has won numerous awards, including 13 British Academy Television Awards and two Emmy Awards.
