The Great Lakes region of Northern America is a binational Canadian-American region centered around the Great Lakes. This chain of deep freshwater lakes includes Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario. These vast bodies of water, known as the "Grands Lacs" in French, form a natural border between the United States and Canada.

The Great Lakes region encompasses a vast area in North America, stretching across parts of the United States and Canada. It includes portions of eight US states (Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Minnesota) and two Canadian provinces (Ontario and Quebec).
