FBI Investigates Incident as Assassination Attempt

A man fired multiple shots toward the stage during former President Donald J. Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening, killing one person.

The FBI is investigating the incident as an assassination attempt and has named 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the suspect.

The shots were fired shortly before 9 p.m. as Trump was speaking to a large crowd at the Butler County Fairgrounds. Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots and saw people running for cover.

Trump was reportedly not injured and was quickly escorted from the stage by security.

The suspect, Crooks, was arrested by local police shortly after the shooting. He is being held without bail on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear, but investigators are looking into whether Crooks had any political or personal motivations.

In a statement released shortly after the shooting, Trump called the incident a "disgraceful act of violence" and said that he was "saddened by the loss of life."

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the political world and has raised concerns about the safety of political rallies.

The FBI is continuing to investigate the incident, and more information is expected to be released in the coming days.
